Title

EFFECT OF CROP RESIDUE AND RESIDUAL STARTER Zn ON CONCENTRATION & UPTAKE OF Zn IN RICE –WHEAT CROPPING SYSTEM

Abstract

The crop residue and Zn addition impacts on concentration of Zn , Zn uptake were measured under a rice-wheat system in the 17th and 18th crop cycles. Results indicate that the The high concentration of Zn in grain & straw were recorded at 100 per cent crop residue either receiving starter dose of Zn or not, however, when Zn was added as starter dose, the increase in concentration was much marked. The significant increase in Zn content as influenced by increasing levels of starter Zn varied from 25.35 to 29.15 and 22.50 to 28.00 mg kg-1 (Av. 23.90 to 28.56 mg kg-1) in grain and 31.89 to 37.78 and 19.10 to 24.60 mg kg-1 (Av. 25.47 to 31.20 mg kg-1) in straw of 34th and 36th wheat (Pooled mean of 34th and 36th) crops . The levels of Zn and crop residues and their interactions significantly influenced uptake of zinc by rice crops. The uptake of zinc by rice in 33rd, 35th and average zinc uptake in 33rd and 35th rice crop increase was significantly with the increasing levels of residual Zn from 234 to 329 and 210 to 289 g ha-1 (Av. 222 to 309 g ha-1) respectively increasing doses of Zn significantly increase total zinc uptake by 34th and 36th (Pooled of 34th & 36th) wheat crop from 267 to 353 and 178 to 245 g ha-1 (Av. 223 to 299 g ha-1), accordingly. Interaction effect of zinc and crop residue was found significant in 34th crop only
