Mass spectrometry is one of the pivotal technique for molecular identification and works as a complementary method to other identification techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared or UV-visible spectroscopy as it provides detail information about the molecular weight of the species of interest. Mass spectrometry has evolved a lot in recent years as several sophisticated variants have emerged with different advantageous features. Electrospray ionization(ESI) is one of the most popular variant and used in mass analysis of molecules or studies related to inter-molecular interaction and so on. This article depicts a picture about the popular use of ESI mass spectrometry along with the basic instrumentation and the working principle of the technique.
