The domain of drilling engineering has been consistent in being one of the defying aspect in the O&G sector. Such a dominion has led to an extensive research in unearthing the technology behind the complex formulation of drilling fluid. This has helped to understand the mud properties for a successful completion of a well, drilled for recovering hydrocarbon fluids. In practise though the cost of formulating drilling fluid is comparatively small, its maintenance during operations adds to the cost of business. To ensure an optimum practice of the of use of drilling fluids, the American Petroleum Institute recommends periodic testing of the drilling fluid properties, which will help the mud engineers to determine the proper functions of the drilling fluid. This is to strongly kept mind because drilling fluids are related directly or indirectly to most of the drilling problems.
