Though the environmentalrevolution for moving from pollution-engender to effective and unpollutedtechnology was started in 19th-century environment protection is oneof the major concerns of the 21st century. As mentioned in an article, GlobalAlliance on Health and Pollution 2017 reported that 15% of premature death was causedby the pollutant environment. Further, the report cited that India tops thelist with 2.3 million deaths due to pollution followed by China (1.38million). However, India in recent times had taken progressive steps towards environmentalprotection. The environment activists, leader, or attorney like MC Mehta havecontributed to developing environmental jurisprudence which helps in establishinglegal principle, statutes and some relevant provision were added or amended inthe Indian Constitution. Since the considerable approach has been taken jointlyby Government, Judiciary, and citizens we still fall from achieving a determined goal in protecting the environment. In this review paper, the author will discuss the importance of the environment with special reference to practices followedin ancient India. Further, the author will discuss the development of jurisprudencethrough public interest litigation and finally analyzes the approach ofcitizens towards environment protection with a conclusion and suggestion at theend.
