Title

Patient experiences of frozen shoulder and its treatment with Bowen technique

Abstract

Understanding Frozen Shoulder: A Comprehensive Overview Abstract: Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is a debilitating condition characterized by inflammation and stiffness in the shoulder capsule, leading to restricted movement and chronic pain. This condition often presents a significant challenge for both patients and healthcare providers due to its slow recovery process, which can result in frustration and prolonged discomfort. The exact cause of frozen shoulder remains elusive, though it is believed to involve a combination of factors including autoimmune components and joint dehydration. Symptoms of a frozen shoulder include severe pain, particularly at night and in cold weather, as well as restricted movement that hampers daily activities. Risk factors for developing a frozen shoulder include diabetes, stroke, lung disease, and heart disease, with the condition rarely occurring in individuals under 40 years old. Treatment options range from physiotherapy and medication to surgery, with the latter being considered in more severe cases. The progression of a frozen shoulder involves the thickening and tightening of scar tissue within the shoulder capsule, leading to a narrowing of the joint space and increased stiffness and pain. Individuals with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, are at a higher risk of experiencing more severe symptoms and longer recovery times.
