Title

Parenting Styles and Their influence on the psycho-social development of Adolescents: A cross sectional study in Tripura

Abstract

This study is meant to explore the parenting style and their influence on psychosocial development of adolescents in Unakoti district Tripura. Population of this study was comprised all adolescents’ students under the Unakoti Tripura district of the state Tripura Ttwo colleges was taken from one district for this research, these colleges are Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya and Ambedkar College . In this study 200 College students 104 number of male and 96 number of female students have been randomly selected as study sample. Particularly, those who are studying in the colleges of Unakoti district of the state Tripura under Tripura University and for data collection a technique is used by the researcher which is simple random sampling technique. “Parenting Style Scale” constructed and standardized by Prof.(Dr.) Madhu Gupta and Ms. Dimple Mehtani was used in this study. In order to know the psycho-social development of the adolescents, some items has been adopted from the scale named Measures of Psychosocial Development (MPD) by Gwen A. Hawley. Some statistical method was applied for these study i.e, mean, SD, t-test, Chi-squire test etc. After analysis the whole study it is seen that maximum of the sdolescents comes under average level of parenting style which is 83 and also the most used parenting style by the parents is democratic parenting style with the 43.12%.In respect of male and female students It is also identified that there exists no significance difference between parenting styles. While comparing the significance difference between rural and urban parents parenting style, after analysis it is seen that there exist no significance difference between rural and urban parents in parenting style. It is also proved after completion of this analysis that psychosocial development of adolescents is greatly depends on parenting style.
