In Ayurveda, inguinal hernia is referred to as Aantra Vruddhi, which is also one of the seven types of Vruddhi. Abdominal pain and swelling are caused by a pathological condition where an internal organ in the abdomen shifts and eventually protrudes outward. The majority of people affected by hernias are middle-aged or older, and they typically occur in the abdominal region. Major causes of hernias include genetic conditions, protracted coughing, pressure during defecation, constipation, straining abdominal muscles when lifting heavy objects, obesity, and fluid retention in the abdominal cavity. Pain and swelling, soft lumps, hard protrusions, etc. are some of the symptoms. Ayurvedic formulations, Agni karma, Sneha, Upanaha, Vatahara pralepa, Vata Vriddhi chikitsa, and others are some methods that aid in the treatment of hernias. primarily modern science described uses of surgical approaches and pain reliving medicines for managing such types of conditions.
