Abstract

Use of corrugated webs to increase the out-of-plane stiffness and buckling strength without the use of vertical stiffeners has been considered for some time, first in aircraft design and later for civil engineering applications in buildings and bridges where heavy shear forces are dominating bending moments. Finite element models of steel materials with corrugated web simulated for material and geometrical nonlinear analysis using ANSYS® APDL. Finite element models were analyzed for shear and pure bending. Fem analysis results are very similar to experimental test in shear and bending. Yield stress limit of material and out of plane buckling are considered as failure criteria.
