West Bengal secures second place in terms of potato production in India (Department of Agriculture Cooperation, Govt. of India, 2015). Birbhum district is one of the potato producing districts of West Bengal. The paper attempts to analyse the inter block variations in the level of productivity of potato in Birbhum district of West Bengal during the time span of 2013-14. The present study is entirely based on the secondary data which have been collected mainly from the District Statistical Handbook, 2014. Crop yield and concentration indices ranking coefficient of Singh (1976) has been used to demarcate the blocks of Birbhum district in terms of potato productivity. The paper reveals that the highest yield index of potato is found in Murarai-I block (139.62) and the lowest in Rampurhat- II (51.12). The highest concentration index of potato has been recorded in Dubrajpur (746.33) and the lowest in Rampurhat-I block (10.5). The highest level of potato productivity has been found in Murarai-I and Khoyrasol blocks and the lowest in Rampurhat-II and Bolpur-Sriniketan blocks. To minimise the wide disparity in potato productivity across the blocks of Birbhum district, special emphasis should be given to the efficient use of modern technological inputs along with better use of irrigation.
