Abstract

- The structural system of the building has to support the lateral loads due to earthquake and wind in addition to gravity loads. A lateral load develops high stresses and produces sway causing vibration and drift. If the RCC framed building are not designed to resist the lateral loads, then they may be collapse resulting into the loss of life or its content. Therefore, it’s important for the structure to have not only sufficient strength against gravity loads but also the adequate stiffness to resist lateral forces. The work is concerned with the comparison of the performance evaluation of RC symmetric and asymmetric buildings connected with and without friction dampers. The method carried out in terms of equivalent static, response spectrum and pushover analysis according to IS 1893:2016 (part l), G+10 storey buildings respectively are considered for the analysis in longitudinal direction & transverse. Results of these analyses are discussed in terms of the storey displacement, storey drift and base shear. From these results it is concluded that storey displacement, Shear and storey drift will be more in regular buildings compare with the friction damper buildings.
