This study is confined among the Santals residing in Jhargram Block of Jhargram district in the Indian state of West Bengal. A major issue that the study deals with is the relationship between educated and non-educated Santals in context of wide range of modernization and their day to day life. Participatory rural appraisal (PRA), participant observation, focus group discussions (FGD), household surveys and informal and semi-structured interviews were used to collect information. Modernization has affected this community immensely especially with respect to health practices, agriculture, communication, dress pattern, utensils, drinking water, lightning at house. It is found that Educated Santal are taking the opportunity of modernization in their day to day life and more adopts the modernized process, articles and devices in their daily life with respect to non-educated Santal in the studied area.
