A social network is a set of people or organizations or other social entities connected by set of social relationships such as friendship, co-working or information exchange. Online social networking sites have become popular. The most powerful combination of methods and techniques makes a special breakdown of social networks. Social network analysis focuses on the pattern of relationships among people, organizations, states and social entities. This article discusses the challenges and opportunities arising from the evolution of social networks and provides the structure for a better understanding of the rapid growth of social networks. This paper reviews the state of play in the selected aspects of social networking and a survey of the works done in the field of social network analysis is done. This presents an open set of challenges in the field of social networking. Problem shows that more research is needed in social networks.
