Title

Synthesis and Photo Electrochemical Method for the Band gap Calculation of Novel Coumarin Derivative and its Fluorescence studies

Abstract

Abstract- In the present study, a novel coumarin derivative was prepared by Buchwald Hartwig reaction. In this reaction, palladium acetate is used as the catalyst, 2,2′-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1′-binaphthyl (BINAP) as ligand, potassium carbonate as base and DMF is used as the solvent. The synthesised compound was purified by column chromatography and characterised by UV Visible, FT-IR, and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The electrochemical study of the compound was done by cyclic voltammetry using ferrocene as the external standard. Using cyclic Voltammetry the EHOMO value is calculated .The optical band gap is calculated from absorption spectrum. The ELUMO was calculated and is verified computationally by DFT method. The ELUMO Value is comparable to the EHOMO value of TiO2. So this compound can be used in dye sensitised solar cells. The fluorescence spectra of the compound at different pH values in Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) - water mixture were also found using a fluorescent spectrometer. The results show that the intensity of emission changes with change in pH. The intensity increases first, it is maximum at pH 9 and decreases thereafter. So pH 9 is the optimum pH of the compound where maximum intensity occurs.
