Authors

Abstract

The movement of the lower-class people of West Bengal is known as the Matua Movement. After the establishment of Matua Mahasangha in 1986, the leadership of the movement was transferred to the organization instead of different individuals. As a result, the process of Political decision-making was also changed. By this time, the divisions inside the Matua community started being prominent based on Social, economical and religious activities. Hence, the issues of political interest, consciousness and participation started gaining importance. In this essay, the political participation of Matuas and the political positions of Matua women in each divisions have been analyzed in the context of Politics of West Bengal.
