Title

Resonating Echoes: Mehjoor's Poetic Odyssey in Shaping Kashmiri Identity and Literature

Abstract

This research paper delves into the life, literary achievements, and enduring legacy of Mehjoor, a prominent figure in Kashmiri literature. Born in 1885 in Srinagar, Mehjoor's early exposure to traditional Kashmiri poetry shaped his unique poetic journey. He transcended conventional norms, introducing fresh themes and styles that resonated with changing times. His Ghazals, in particular, marked a significant departure from tradition. However, his impact extended beyond poetry; his works became a voice of social change and political resistance in a tumultuous era, uniting people and asserting identity. Collaborative efforts with fellow poets like Abdul Ahad Azad enriched the literary landscape. His compositions like "Sahibo Saath Chum Mai Chaani" and "Walu Ha Baghwanu Nu Bahru" exemplify his fusion of personal, cultural, and political themes. The poem "Gaaem Kor" symbolizes his role in shaping the transition of Kashmiri literature. Mehjoor's legacy remains influential, reflecting his role as a catalyst for change and a promoter of unity. Through an exploration of his life and works, this paper sheds light on his profound impact on literature and society.
