Title

VOICES OF REBELLION IN PURSUIT OF IDENTITY: A FEMINIST STUDY OF KAMALA DAS’ MY STORY AND ALICE WALKER’S THE COLOR PURPLE

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper highlights the points how women were overloaded with the burden of dogmatic beliefs and parochial outlook. From the very beginning female is epitomized as the weaker sex who is unvaryingly demeaned in the male dominated society. Woman has no identity of her own but always identified by the characteristics of her father or husband. Literary pieces of feminist origin brings to light the dominance, unjust authority and victimization of women prevalent in the society. Kamala Das and Alice Walker shows how women are unjustly suppressed and forced to obey their male counterparts. Kamala Das in My Story and Alice Walker in The Color Purple have established the protagonists as such luminaries who had an arduous but successful journey from subjugation towards liberation. The women in these two novels not only raised their voices but also rebelled for the pursuit of their lost identity.
