Title

THERMAL ANALYSIS OF PARABOLIC SOLAR WATER HEATER

Abstract

Solar energy is the new way of energy thinking which focused on developing altering energy resources which would be renewable and environmentally friendly. Solar energy resources are being harnessed for various applications such as power generation, air-conditioning, space heating , domestic hot water etc. The purpose of this project was to develop the low cost solar water heater and save the energy for many years. It is a heart of solar thermal devices that has many applications in a medium temperature range less than 100oC from domestic to preheating to industrial sectors. The hot water available from flat plate collector can also used to conserve fossil fuel. The main disadvantage of this collector is less efficient at high temperature. The most efficient shape for a solar collector is the parabolic shape since it can focus the suns energy on a small heat exchanger. By concentrating the sun’s energy onto a focal point, less collection surface area is required and that lowers costs. In addition, parabolic solar collectors can have dual tracking capabilities. Design of flat plate and parabolic plate collectors are done using Unigraphic software. Theoretical mass flow rate and efficiency calculated for different materials. Also this project explained that thermal analysis of collectors using Ansys software
