Title

Strategies for improving low academic performance in English language

Abstract

This research work examines the strategies for improving low academic performance in English language for students. English proficiency is an essential factor in educational achievement. The objectives of this study were to ascertain the level of student’s performance in English language and determine measures for improving low academic performance in English language. The study focuses on the language skills of the students across 4 domains – Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading and Language usage. The research design used for this study is survey and the instrument used for this study is questionnaire. The questions are taken under the 4 domains to check the English Language skills of the students. The students should expose them to the English Language as much as possible by practising reading skills, writing skills, speaking skills and listening skills. Based on the finding, the questions asked to test the English language knowledge of the students are highly effective. This strategy resulted in improving the performance of students in English language learning and also explicit instructions that enhances the student’s academic success.
