The Indian auto industry is on a transformation period where becoming environmentally friendly has become critical to its survival in the face of such ecological and regulatory pressures. This article discusses sustainable finance that are being implemented in India's automobile industry by examining how finance practices are changing to accommodate environmental, social and governance (ESG) concerns. Drawing on qualitative and quantitative research methods, this research provides a holistic view of the current status of sustainable finance initiatives in India’s automotive sector. It seeks to determine whether manufacturers, policy makers and financial institutions have fully embraced these instruments by examining different types of financial mechanisms such as green bonds, sustainability linked loans and impact investing. Moreover, this research explores some of the motivations, challenges and opportunities faced by industry players when adopting or implementing sustainable financing strategies within the Indian motorcar sector. Some case studies were examined while interviews were held with experts from the relevant field to give us more information about this topic.
