An immense challenge facing the healthcare industry is the provision for quality services-correct, timely diagnosis and effective treatment, at affordable costs. Medical diagnosis is usually subjective. Also, the amount of data to be analysed for diagnostic purposes is huge and at times unmanageable. In this context, data mining can be used to efficiently infer patterns and rules from earlier treatments, thus helping to make diagnosis more objective and reliable. There is a huge amount of untapped data which can be analysed to obtain useful information through data mining. Here we have surveyed the various applications, technologies and challenges associated with data mining in healthcare.
