Title

Water Use Efficiency for sustainable agriculture

Abstract

India's agriculture is facing acute water scarcity and a major reason for this is very low water use efficiency – only about 25 to 35 percent in conventional irrigation. The overall irrigation project efficiency in developed countries is 50 – 60% as compared to only 38% in India. The effectiveness of plants in limiting water loss while allowing CO2 uptake is given by the transpiration ratio.
