The present paper studies about the importance of war in statecraft. War was an important device in creating and defending states throughout history. However, the Meitei Kings waged wars against the immediate neighbours to establish their suzerainty whereas they fought war against the foreign powers to defend their existence and increase of power. According to the strategy concerned the Meitei Kings divided the conquered areas into two categories like tributary principalities of Kingdoms and tribute collected areas. Thus, war is highly essential to the Meitei King to make his kingdom a powerful one. The present article makes an assessment about the different wars fought by the Meitei Kings in successive periods.
