Abstract: The ground level of the interior of a large number of temples is uniform and largely this level corresponds to the topmost moulding of their adhisthanas." In several temples, the ground level of the garbhagṛhas including that of the antarālas and mukhamantapas is raised by one or two steps above the level of the rangamantapas. The ground level of the Jaina temples at Hampi is uniform. The ground level and the bottom moulding of their adhisthanas are of the same level. The ground level of the sanctum of Virabhadra temple at Nagamangala is lower by one metre than the level of the antarala and rangamantapa. But the adhisthana mouldings on the exterior run uniformly alround the temple including the garbhagṛha. This is the only temple having such a feature in the entire range of the Vijayanagara temples in Karnataka.
