Tuberculosis (TB) remains a critical public health issue in India, accounting for nearly a quarter of the global TB burden. Despite medical advancements, TB continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income regions. The disease's persistence in India is influenced by socio-economic and demographic factors such as overcrowding, poor living conditions, malnutrition, and limited access to healthcare, particularly in rural areas. The rise of drug-resistant TB and co-infection with HIV further complicate the TB landscape. Social stigma and inadequate healthcare infrastructure continue to impede effective TB control efforts. India’s healthcare system faces significant challenges, including delays in diagnosis, inconsistent treatment protocols, and the lack of standardization in care, particularly in the private sector. Addressing these challenges is critical for controlling the TB epidemic, and public health campaigns targeting awareness, stigma reduction, and early diagnosis are necessary for success.
