From a hamlet to a metropolitan: Tracing the evolution of Kanpur

Abstract
The city of Kanpur is often regarded as an industrial city. Very few available accounts throw light on its spatial history and evolution. A qualitative approach is adopted to review the literature, and further spatial mapping is done using the rasterization technique. Google Earth data and AutoCAD 2007 are used to create the maps. This paper tries to trace the evolution of Kanpur based on the insights gained from the available literature. The chronological evolution of the city is traced and presented in a series of maps as an outcome of this paper.
