Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, has shaped human evolution through a complex interplay of biological, environmental, and social factors. This historical relationship between humans and the bacterium is characterized by an ongoing "arms race" where human immune systems evolved to combat TB, while the pathogen developed mechanisms to evade immune responses. Human migration, the domestication of animals, urbanization, and agricultural practices further facilitated the spread of TB, making it a persistent global health challenge. Genetic resistance and antibiotic resistance have also emerged as critical factors in TB’s persistence. This paper explores the factors influencing the occurrence and spread of TB, examining the role of human migration, genetic factors, and antibiotic resistance in the disease’s global prevalence.
