Title

Early Influences on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

Abstract

Ambedkar said that his "five years of stay in Europe and America had completely wiped out of his mind any consciousness that he was an Untouchable ". In other words, it meant that Untouchability was so very entrenched in the Indian society and that it was difficult not to be affected by it and indeed it was ony in foreign environment that its impact could be avoided. Ambedkar had to go out of India to realise not just what is like to be an Untouchable in India but what it is like to be a free human being without the effects of the social stigma.
