Title

EFFECT OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON THE THERMODYNAMIC AND ELECTROKINETIC BEHAVIOR OF AQUEOUS MERCURIC CHLORIDE IN ORGANIC MEMBRANE SYSTEM

Abstract

In the present study, a cellulose acetate membrane was prepared by casting a solution of cellulose acetate in acetone with an aqueous potassium bromide additive. The membrane was employed to investigate the transport behavior of water and aqueous HgCl₂ solutions under varying conditions of temperature, concentration, and magnetic field strength. The experimental focus was on measuring flow rates and evaluating electrokinetic1 and thermodynamic transport parameters2-4.The findings indicate that the transport of aqueous HgCl₂ through the membrane is thermodynamically unfavorable, as reflected by the calculated activation parameters. Moreover, the dipolar nature of the HgCl₂ solution significantly influences membrane morphology, evidenced by notable variations in pore structure and surface charge. These results suggest a strong interaction between the solute and membrane matrix, impacting the overall transport mechanism.
