Abstract

Saivism is among the most ancient religious systems of India. Rudra-Siva in the Rigveda has relatively fewer hymns and figures as a less prominent deity, but during later vedic age he seems to have assimilated himself into several other deities of like nature and drew a separate set of votaries who regarded him as the Highest.
