Abstract
The Ummattur Chiefs the 15th-16th centuries, around Gundlupet, ChamarajaNananagud, Yalandur and Kollegalataluks of Mysore and Malavallitaluk of Mandya district, a family of chiefs described as the chiefs of Ummattür, held power as subordinates Vijayanagara kings. But more often they tried to become independent. It is known that Ksishṇadēvarāya finally dealt the how with which they not only lost their power but shortly after sank into oblivion. The total period of their rule was not much, it hardly spread over half a century. But in this short period theUmmattūr chiefs had established themselves well in power in their own region.
