This study has been undertaken to assess the determinants of out migration. A total sample comprises 200 households from both tribal and non-tribal regions in Himachal Pradesh collected in 2015. Results show that out-migration rate has been very high in tribal region (26.2 percent) as compared to that in rural (12 percent) and urban areas (3.3 percent) of non-tribal region. Study for tribal region supports the hypothesis that unmarried population is likely to out-migrate more than married one. Hypothesis that population of lower age is likely to out-migrate more than that of higher age is supported for tribal region. Educational level hardly plays any role in out-migration. Study shows that out-migration in non-tribal region is male dominated proving our hypothesis. Urban population out-migrates less than rural population. The estimates of educational levels are statically not significant indicating no educational differential.
