Along with the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), apps have gotten smarter and linked appliances in every part of a contemporary city may be exploited. As the acquired data volume rises, Machine Learning (ML) approaches are used to boost intelligence and application capabilities. Intelligent transport attracted many researchers and was tackled using both ML and IoT approaches. Smart transport is considered an umbrella term for road-optimization, parking, street lighting, accident prevention/detection, road anomalies and infrastructure applications in this assessment. This study aims to conduct an independent analysis of ML approaches and IoT applications in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and to acquire a comprehensive overview of the developments in the sectors listed above and to identify probable requirements for coverage. The papers evaluated show that there is a probable shortage of ML coverage for Smart Lighting Systems and Smart Parking. In addition, road optimisation, parking and accident/detection tend to be among academics' most favoured ITS applications.
