Title

Mental Health among Corporate Employees Working in Shifts

Authors

Abstract

This study explored the mental health of corporate employees working in shifts, with a focus on identifying differences based on shift type and gender. The research aimed to test two primary hypotheses- there are no significant differences in mental health between corporate employees working in shifts, and there are no significant gender differences in mental health among these employees. The study utilized a purposive sampling technique to select 145 full-time married corporate employees, aged 25 to 50 years, all of whom had at least one child and were engaged in different shift work schedules. The research employed a between-group design, where participants completed the Mental Health Inventory (MHI), a standardized tool designed to measure overall mental health. Participants also provided demographic details, including gender, age and shift type. The results revealed that day shift employees generally exhibit better mental health across most dimensions, including positive self-evaluation, perception of reality, integration of personality, group-oriented attitudes, and environmental mastery, compared to night shift employees, except in autonomy. Among male employees, those working day shifts have better mental health than their female counterparts, except in environmental mastery. Male employees on night shifts show superior mental health compared to females, particularly in positive self-evaluation, perception of reality, autonomy, and group-oriented attitudes.
