This paper reports on the development and spectral results of europium (Eu3+) and terbium (Tb3+) optical glasses in the following chemical composition. 20TeO2 – 49.5B2O3 – 10CdO – 10P2O5 – 10AlF3-0.5 Eu2O3 20TeO2 – 49.5B2O3 – 10CdO – 10 P2O5 – 10AlF3-0.5 Tb4O7 From the measurements of X-ray diffraction (XRD), glass amorphous nature and thermal properties of these glasses have been carried out. From the XRD, the glass nature have been studied. The measured emission spectrum of Eu3+ glasses have revealed five transitions ( 5D0→7F0, 7F1, 7F2, 7F3 & 7F4) at 579, 591, 613, 652 & 701 nm respectively with λexci = 392nm ( 7F0→5L6) . In the case of Tb3+ glasses four emission transitions such as 5D4→ (7F6, 7F5, 7F4 & 7F3) that are located at 489, 543, 584 and 621nm respectively have been measured with λexci =376nm (7F6→5G6). Emission mechanisms that are araised in the glasses have been explained in terms of energy level diagrams.
