India is third leading Electricity distribution and transmission network country in the entire world. Though, India suffers number of challenges like poor electricity access, loss of supply, massive arrangement loss, bad quality & theft. In India, government has taken up initiative for reforming distribution system. AMI which is termed as Advanced Metering Infrastructure is the primary building block for development of smart Grid in Distribution System. The main purpose of AMI is to modify two approach communications between client and smart Grid center of Utility that involves remote observation of energy consumption also as other parameters in real time. This paper deals with the continuing initiative concerned by our government and roadmap for smart metering preparation for Indian smart grid. This paper presents many analytics developed on sensible meter data as a part of AMI implemented in India smart Grid pilot program. It should be used for, replacement previous electromechanical electricity meters with more powerful smart meters. AMI should also taken place for theft detection and controlling in power grid.
