Title

Overview of MPPT Techniques for Solar Energy Harvesting Systems

Abstract

High Cost and Low Conversion efficiency are the main drawbacks of PV cells. We have to extract maximum possible power from the PV cell to attain maximum efficiency. PV cell has non-linear response for V-I characteristic, but it has a maximum power point. To attain maximum conversion efficiency of photo-voltaic system Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques are used. Irrespective of the irradiation condition, temperature and load electrical characteristics these techniques give maximum power. MPPT techniques use some electronic converters and some algorithms to track maximum power point. This paper presents overview of three well-known maximum power point tracking algorithms- perturb-and observe (P&O), incremental conductance (INC), and fractional open circuit voltage (FVOC).
