Title

Minimization of Total Harmonic Distortion: A Detailed Survey for Power Quality Improvement

Abstract

THD is a general approach to determine the level of HD prevailing in power systems. Further, it could be correlated to current or voltage harmonics, and it could be explained as “the ratio of total harmonics to the value at fundamental frequency times 100%”. THD is a significant characteristic in power systems, and it must be maintained as lesser as possible. Reduced THD in power systems signifies improved power factor, reduced peak currents, and increased efficiency. Hence, this survey intends to review various topics related to THD issues in power systems. Accordingly, the algorithmic classification for the surveyed papers is analyzed and portrayed. In addition, the performance measures and the maximum performance achievements are also analyzed and demonstrated in this survey along with the research gaps and challenges.
