The need for a crypto-currency policy in India has been slowly but steadily being considered as one of the few options to regulate the emergence of crypto-currencies as an investment option. The acceptance of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) among businesses as a way to raise capital for their new ventures has created controversy and has also raised questions on the need for a policy framework in India. The study tries to examine the performance of 29 crypto-currencies which have gained visibility and momentum during the recent times in comparison to other popular crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and Litecoin. The study infers that, the difficulty in classifying crypto currencies as an investment or financial instrument can pose to be the biggest problem before making decision on crypto currency policy in India.
