University is associated with various stakeholders and the whole system performance affects them. When the university activities are automated, it results in saving time and effort for all the stakeholders besides minimizing errors. When the students, faculties, and administrators are geographically located, it is possible to let them use the application portal and perform their activities without a time and environmental restraint. Reduction of cost, operational efficiency, and combination with other institutions are possible with web-based application portal for the university. Paperless work in the university has lots of advantages. The main advantages include transparency in the system, operational effectiveness, centralized data availability; information on fingertips, no manual search for information is required, saving time and effort and so on. There are three roles in the proposed system which is aimed at automating university activities by building an application portal with a web-based interface. Students can use it to apply and obtain various certificates like no-dues, transfer, marks, provisional certificate and original degree. In the same fashion, faculties can have their respective operations and track them. Administrators can do their day to day jobs with the system. The university application portal is implemented using Java/JEE platform for proof of the concept. Operation of the system is evaluated and found that the system has acceptable usability score.
