Title

The Integration of Vegetation to Building Design, Vertical and Horizontal Greened Surfaces and its Implications

Abstract

The awareness on depletion of natural resources and the alarming need for energy efficiency has been a concern for long time. This study has been emphasized on integration of plants in built up spaces which play an important role for the energy consumption by the building as well as improving the living quality. The study deals in particular about the necessity and impact of green envelope in terms of energy savings and indoor environmental qualities and study different ways of integrating plants into built up spaces. Different technologies for vegetation installments like complete, modular and vegetated blanket system for vegetated roof; modular, freestanding and cable-rope system for green façade have been addressed here along with their case studies. Some typical types of plants use at different places in building are discussed. In this research some rules and regulations in different countries regarding this are also studied. The software has been used for simulation to investigate the performance of green envelope. At the end the recommendation shows that integration of plants can change the environment, climate, can restore the ecology and benefited to the economy. Results are the noticeable decrease in heat, reduction of energy consumption and cost, and refreshing air for a healthy environment.

Key Words

integration of plants, green roof, green facade, ecological impact, climate, indoor environment quality, design technology.
