Title

A New Benzodiazepine Scaffold: Synthesis, characterization and Antimicrobial Evaluation of 8-Methyl-2-aryl-4-(2-bromonaphthalen-6-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[1, 5]diazepines

Abstract

A new series of 1,5-benzodiazepines were synthesised by the treatment of 1-(2-bromonaphthalen -6-yl) ethanone with substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of sodium hydroxide gave corresponding 1-(2-bromonaphthalen-6-yl)-3-arylprop-2-en-1-ones.The formed α,β-unsaturated ketones reacts with 3,4-diaminotoulene in presence of base, piperidine affords the respective 8-Methyl-2-aryl-4-(2-bromonaphthalen-6-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[1,5] diazepines. The synthesized compounds were characterised by IR, NMR and MASS spectral techniques. The invitro antimicrobial evaluation of synthesized benzodiazepines showed significant activities against selected microorganism.
