Title

Power Quality Improvement through Harmonic Filter and Optimization Algorithm in Distribution System

Abstract

This study describes how adding an active filter (AF) to a distribution system (DS) improves power quality (PQ). The reason for the low PQ is the harmonics. The nonlinear load’s (NL) harmonics are reduced in DS by using AF. The IEEE-69 bus system is used for the simulation. In DS, the NL is connected at one node. Using harmonic load flow at each of the DS' busses, the THDv is computed. An effective placement of AF lowers its cost. The firefly algorithm (FA) and autonomous group of PSO APSO1 are used to determine the AF current that is needed to limit the IEEE standards. FA has determined the lowest necessary AF current to keep harmonics under the regulatory limit compared to APSO1. The simulation results demonstrate how well FA works to improve DS power quality.
