Noise removal from the images is one of the most important concerns in digital image processing. During the transmission of images over the channels, images are often corrupted by noise and degradations due to faulty communication or noisy channels. Image noise is a random, usually unwanted, fluctuation of pixel values in an image which is introduced mainly during transmission and/or acquisition. The type of noise added during an image acquisition is called Gaussian noise whereas the Impulsive noise is generally introduced during transmission of an image data over an unreliable communication channel. However, the later can also be added during acquisition. Gaussian noise is a set of values taken from a zero mean Gaussian distribution which are added to each pixel value. Impulsive noise involves changing a part of the pixel values with random ones. The main aim of Image removal, also known as denoising, is to preserve useful information while discarding the irrelevant one. Various techniques are used for the removal of these types of noise based on the properties of their respective noise models.
