Abstract Agricultural credit is regarded as one of the most essential input for conducting all agricultural development in India. Agricultural finance is required because; very few agriculturists will have capital of their own to invest in agriculture. Therefore, credit is like a weapon which can be used to encourage the tempo of agricultural production. A large number of institutional credit agencies are involved in the disbursement of credit to agriculture sector. However, the persistence of moneylenders in the rural areas is still a major concern. So, institutional credit is a weapon which can be used to stimulate the tempo of agricultural production. In this backdrop, the present study has been conducted in Karbi Anglong District of Assam with the prime objective to make an analysis on the progress of agriculture credit for development of agriculture in the district. The State Bank of India (SBI) is taken as the area of the study and tries to examine the impact of agricultural credit on borrowers in Karbi Anglong District. The relevant information was gathered through secondary data and primary data.
