Title

FAULT DIAGNOSIS OF SINGLE STAGE GEARBOX USING ACOUSTIC EMISSION

Abstract

Condition monitoring is the process of monitoring a critical parameters indicating condition of machinery. Contactless health monitoring of machine is highly desirable in industry. Condition monitoring of rotating machinery using acoustic signal has been most challenging and relatively less visited area of research. Gearbox is mostly used in military and industrial applications. Due to high service load and fatigue, faults may develop in gears. Early prediction of gear tooth fault is essential to prevent failure of gearbox. In this paper, an investigation on single stage gearbox fault detection using acoustic emission signal have been reported. Single microphone has used to collect signal from gearbox. Here the influence of tooth pitting on gear has been investigated using acoustic signal. Experiments have revealed that acoustic signal analysis can be used for precise gear pitting identification and gear health monitoring.
