Self Help Groups (SHGs) are an effective way to ensure the poor have access to credit and a way to develop the habit of saving money. The goal of the Self Help Group is to develop leadership and empower the poor. A Self Help Group is a group voluntarily formed by the rural poor, in which the members of the group can easily save as much as they want, to contribute to a consolidated fund and to provide credit to the group members for productivity or emergency needs. The goal of the Self Help Group is to develop leadership and empower the poor. In this paper we shall be discussed the role of Self Help Group in women empowerment and government effort for women empowerment.
