Title

A Review on Aluminium metal matrix composites and EDM process

Abstract

Presently the industry is focusing on metal matrix composites which are gaining more attention for different applications such as aerospace, automotive, marine and mineral processing industries because they have excellent combination of mechanical and physical properties such as stiffness, strength, hardness, lightweight and high thermal resistance as compared to the conventional materials. Further for enhancing the properties of composites the reinforced materials like SIC, Aluminum carbide, Aluminum oxide, Boron carbide and Boron oxide etc. are added to base material (Aluminum) in the form of particles or whiskers. This paper attempts to review the fabrication and machining of Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (AMMCs) with different combinations of reinforced materials and its effect on mechanical properties.
