Director Fazil has at his best etched the character of Nagavalli in his super hit movie Manichithrathazh who, according to the Malayali audience, has been received as one of the most memorable character they have ever come across in the history of the Malayalam film industry. However, Nagavalli, an invisible character, conceived in the realm of people's imagination, seems to be the central character which is remembered even after the movie is over. Although we commend on Shobana's acting skills, it is this imaginative character, introduced to the viewers through few glimpses of her picture that has earned her an ever everlasting place both in the movie and their hearts. This paper attempts to analyze the character of Nagavalli. She is represented as a bold and arrogant element of threat that sends a chill down the spines of the viewers constantly reminding them of the complications attached with her existence. She is considered as the real heroine of the movie and Ganga, merely a mouth piece made use of to give vent to the opinions and feelings of Nagavalli. This paper has tried to delve on the contouring of the female psyche through the character of Nagavalli and Ganga in the light of feminist film theory.
