Title

Bamboo biomass: The current alternative for generating electric power

Authors

Abstract

The energy demand is increasing worldwide due to rapid growth in industrialization and urbanization. Currently the major source for producing the electrical energy is fossil fuels like coal, oil and petroleum. Utilizations of these fuels caused many problems like : (1) High cost (2) It increases the emission of harmful gases in the environment thus enhancing the green house effect (3) It increases health relating problems such as heart disease, cancer, respiratory and other serious ailments due to poor environment (4) Fossil fuel reserve is extremely limited and will not last forever. Moreover green house gases are increasing at the rate of 1% for CH4 , 0.4-0.5% CO2 , and 0.2-0.3% for NO2. At this rate, the concentration of CO2 will exceed 370ppm by the year 2030.So, due to high cost, speed depletion of these traditional fossil fuels and negative effect on environment, public health, plants and animals compel us to develop and search alternative energy sources to the fossil fuels. This has to meet with advanced and sustainable energy sources. However , now a days “Green electricity “ is a generic term used for electricity generated from clean and environmentally preferable energy sources. Therefore, the renewable energy sources are considered a suitable candidate because: (1) they are constantly replenished and will never run out (2) Generates oxygen and thus reducing global warming effect. This paper makes comparative analysis of different kind of biomass in terms of their ash content, calorific value, moisture content etc. Further the emission analysis of H, O, C, N and S are also included in order to determine optimal and economic biomass for generating electricity.
