Various organic inhibitors are being employed in the field of corrosion inhibition. Among them amino acids take prime role due to their eco-friendly nature. They are found to be very effective in inhibiting corrosion on metals and alloys such as Steel, Carbon Steel, Mild Steel, Zinc, Tin, Nickel, Aluminium and Brass. Their inhibition efficiency is good in acidic and neutral media. In order to evaluate the corrosion inhibition efficiency of amino acids various techniques are being employed, namely, Weight loss method, Polarization study, AC impedance study are employed. The protective film formed on the metals is analyzed FTIR Spectroscopy, UV Spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Adsorption of amino acid on metal surface obeys Langmuir, El-awady, Hill-de-Beer, Frumkin, Temkin and Freundlich isotherms depending on the nature of metal and corrosive ambience. From Polarization studies we could infer that amino acids act as anodic or cathodic of mixed type of inhibitors depending on the nature of metal and corrosive ambience.
